Wandering around London

I was in London yesterday and did a bit of sightseeing around Hyde Park. The fabulous autumnal colours don't really work in B&W!

you don't often see an empty central linetube train?

Rural Suffolk

I tend to visit the villages south of Bury St Edmunds quite a bit.

Today I was with my father at Lavenham which is a picture postcad small town. The town was, I think, the first to have sewers! and made its money from wool.

The crooked gallery

The Guildhall which is in the care of the National Trust.

One of the attractive estate agents I've come across.

The very fine parish church.

We then moved on to Clare.

Bits and pieces

A few pics taken from some holidays in Yorkshire.

Churches can have some very odd things in them! These were from Burton Agnes Church.

These were taken at Burton Agnes Hall which sits next to the church.

The magnificent Castle Howard.

St Mary's Church, Great Bardfield

One of my hobbies involves visiting old churches. Someone commented on my regular blog that churches would work well in B&W so a little experiment today.

My chosen church was St Mary's at Great Bardfield in Essex. Great Bardfield is a pretty little North Essex village, the type that non natives assume Essex doesn't have.

I think we can agree that stained glass looks better in colour!

St Mary's is very unusual in having a stone rood screen (although just down the road there is another church with a stone rood screen at Stebbing).

Again all pictures with a Panasonic GF1 with a 20mm f1.7 lens, although I should have swapped to the 14mm f2.5 at one point (which I had left in the car!!).
