Positano

Positano is a village on the Amalfi coast, for the first half of the 20th century it was a poor fishing village but after John Steinbeck published an essay about it in 1953 it was discovered by tourists.

Today it has reinvented itself for tourists. It is very pretty but it is lacks a bit of authenticity.

I arrived by bus which has some spectacular views. I hopped off at the top and walked down.

There was a band playing

Rather than walk back I got the boat back to Amalfi.

The Grand Marina Sorrento

Some pictures of the Grand Marina in Sorrento, despite the name it is not the port where you get the boats for Capri, Positano etc and is more like a fishing village.

Some of the restaurants are fisherman collectives and they catch the fish and serve it!

This chap was preparing fish as I awaited my order :D

I was in Kent yesterday visiting a few National Trust properties with a quick 50  yard trip across the border to East Sussex.

Canons Ashby

Canons Ashby an Elizabethan house in Northamptonshire. Until it passed in to the hands of the National Trust it had been owned by the Dryden family since around 1550. The family never had lots of money so the house hasn't been modernised as some have. The church is the background used to be a Priory, what remains is only a quarter of the original church.

 

Baddesley Clinton & Packwood

Between  Warwick and Solihull are two lovely old National Trust properties that are just two miles apart so can easily be visited in a day.

Baddesley is the older but even Packwood is tudor.
