The town of Fiesole overlooks Florence and is a shoot bus ride from the Piazza San Marco. It has a small Duomo, a nice Monastery and a museum of Roman and Etruscan finds.

I've recently spent a week in Florence. If you've never been then I heartily recommend it as a city. It has some amazing Museums, Churches and restaurants and there are some fabulous views.
